How much does a wedding band cost in 2026?
A live band is the most expensive item in wedding entertainment and also the one guests remember longest. The range is wide: from 15 000 Kč for an acoustic duo at the ceremony up to 120 000 Kč for a ten-piece show with its own technical equipment. Below you will find what you actually get for that price, what it consists of, and where savings can be made without it being noticeable on the dance floor.
Average prices for a wedding band in the Czech Republic (2026)
| Assembly | Price (total for the job) |
|---|---|
| Solo musician for the ceremony (guitar, violin, saxophone) | 4 000 - 10 000 Kč |
| Duo / trio (acoustic set for ceremony and reception) | 12 000 - 25 000 Kč |
| Cover for a 4-5 member band (evening entertainment) | 30 000 - 55 000 Kč |
| A band of 6-8 members with brass instruments and a female vocalist | 50 000 - 80 000 Kč |
| A major show with over eight members, featuring their own lighting and sound equipment. | 80 000 - 130 000 Kč |
| Accordion band (4-6 musicians) | 20 000 - 40 000 Kč |
| Jazz/swing trio up to quartet | 18 000 - 40 000 Kč |
Prices correspond to 4-5 hours of performance in 2-3 sets, own equipment for a hall up to 150 guests and transport up to 100 km. Prague and Brno are usually 10-20 % above the table rate, while smaller towns and Vysočina are below it. However, the price mainly depends on the number of people on stage: each additional musician means approximately 5 000-8 000 Kč.
What influences the price the most?
1. Number of musicians. The simplest rule: the band's fee is the sum of the members' fees plus the technician's. A five-piece band with its own sound engineer involves six people spending 8-10 hours at your wedding, including setup and travel.
2. Own equipment. A band that brings its own equipment, lighting and sound engineer charges 8 000-15 000 Kč more than one playing into the venue's system. However, ask the venue what it actually has: most barns and cottages have at most speakers for speeches.
3. Duration of play and number of blocks. The standard package comprises three blocks of 45-60 minutes between 20:00 and 01:00. An additional block or performance at a ceremony in the afternoon (different attire, different repertoire, six-hour wait) is charged separately, typically 5 000-10 000 Kč.
4. Date. Saturdays from May to September are charged at the full rate. Fridays, Sundays and off-season months are usually 10-25% cheaper because the band does not otherwise play.
5. Distance. Supplying the equipment and two cars for five people is not free. For distances over 100 km, expect a travel allowance of 8-12 Kč/km; for weddings ending after midnight and located more than 150 km away, also budget for accommodation for the entire band.
What is included in the price and what is not
- Sound engineers and equipment - sometimes included in the price, sometimes a separate item of 8 000-15 000 Kč
- Music during breaks - between sets, either a playlist from a laptop or a DJ plays; the playlist is usually free, the DJ is not.
- Overtime after 01:00 - typically 3,000-6,000 Kč per started hour for the entire team
- The newlyweds' wishes Rehearsal of 1-2 own pieces (first dance) is usually free; additional ones incur a surcharge.
- Refreshments for the band - hot meals and non-alcoholic drinks for the entire crew are a standard requirement in riders; include this in your catering budget.
- OSA fees - paid by the venue operator or event organiser, not the band; some halls pass this cost on to the client.
Band or DJ?
A DJ for the same wedding costs 12 000-35 000 Kč, roughly one-third of the price. The difference is not just in cost: a band creates an atmosphere that guests perceive as "a concert for us," but they play in blocks and only perform what they have rehearsed. A DJ plays without breaks and can play anything. The most common compromise we see with our suppliers is Band for the first 2-3 sets and DJ to play until morning.; many bands offer this combination directly in a package because their sound engineer is also the DJ. A detailed comparison can be found in our article. DJ versus band for a wedding.
When to book a band for your wedding?
Established wedding bands have their main season booked up before DJs because there are far fewer of them and they play only one event per day.
- 12-18 months in advance - Saturdays from June to September for bands with a name
- 9-12 months in advance - most other seasonal dates
- 3-6 months in advance - out of season, Fridays and Sundays; prices are negotiable here
Before signing, ask to see video from a real weddingnot a studio clip, and ask exactly who will be attending. For larger bands, the lineup changes and a substitute may play at your wedding.
How to save without compromising on quality?
- Select a smaller setup from a good band - most bands offer a trio/quartet with the same musicians for 60-70% of the price
- Friday or Sunday instead of Saturday, or a date outside May to September
- Book an appointment music for the ceremony with one band member (guitar, violin) instead of a solo musician: save on travel costs and fees
- Take advantage of on-site technician. If they actually have one, and let the band handle it with just the sound engineer.
- Combination band and DJ in one package it will be cheaper than two separate suppliers
Red flags of "cheap" bands
- No live performance videos available, only studio recordings.
- Offers a five-piece ensemble for under 20,000 Kč without explanation (typically without a sound engineer and without wedding experience).
- Unwilling to sign a contract with the specified equipment list, timings and technician.
- Cannot say what will happen if the singer falls ill.
- No technical rider prepared for the venue.
